Caesarea Maritima or Caesarea by the Sea is located on the Mediterranean Coast of Israel. The city of Caesarea Maritima and its harbour was built by Herod the Great about 25-13 BC. The photo above shows the Crusader’s city, Ottoman mosque and buildings, and the Hippodrome.

The city was named in honour of Augustus Caesar. It became the civilian and military capital of the Province of Judea at the time of Jesus and also became the official residence of the Roman procurators and governors. Two of these men are Pontius Pilate and Antonius Felix.

The Port of Haifa is the largest of Israel`s three major international seaports. Haifa is the largest city in Northern Israel and the third largest in the country. Haifa has a population of approximately 291,000.

Located in the City of Haifa is Elijah`s Cave. This is believed to be the cave where Elijah lived and taught from.
